Many destinations on one continent can be very easily reached by train. It is getting popular again. There are now many very fast and very comfortable trains. For reasonable and even cheap price.
From our experience, we can recommend trains in Italy, France, Germany, the United Kingdom and Portugal. Sure there are more countries but we did not try them yet.

Second, you write the dates you want to travel. You can put exact dates if you are sure about that. If you do not know yet put flexible dates. You can choose the whole month or just the date with option ± 3 days and so on. That allows you to change input data and search for the best option for you.
When choosing the travel it is important to see if it is direct or with changes. One change is ok but more is a bit tiresome.
train options
If your destination is far and it takes more than 10-12 hours by train you may consider taking a night train with a sleeping wagon. That way you will arrive at your destination fresh and save one night in a room.
There is also an exciting option in planning your transport by train. You can search for attractive locations along the track and choose one to take a break from. Get off the train, look around and take a later train to continue the journey. Or you can take a room and stay overnight and continue the next morning.
Everything is an option with little imagination.
